About Wonder & Scribble

About Me

My name is Nicole, and I’m the creator of Wonder & Scribble.

I’m a parent, a psychology graduate, and someone who works in the NHS and within a mental health charity, supporting people in emotional distress and crisis.

I created Wonder & Scribble to offer calmer, kinder learning resources for children who find school-style learning overwhelming, emotionally loaded or anxiety-provoking.

Why This Exists

My daughter coped at school, but she held it together all day and then fell apart at home.

She was frustrated, anxious and overwhelmed by school-style learning.

Since stepping away from that system, she is calmer, happier and learning well, just not in a school-shaped way.

When I started looking for resources to support her, they did not match what I actually needed.

Some were too vague to be useful.
Others were too prescriptive and rigid.

She was an anxious learner who needed something kinder, clearer and more flexible.

So I started creating my own.

My Background

I have a background in psychology and education.

I work in the NHS and with a Dorset mental health charity, supporting people in emotional distress and crisis.

I’ve worked in schools, colleges, specialist provision, forensic mental health services and crisis services.

Through this work, I’ve seen how stress, shame and pressure can shut learning down.

I’ve also seen how much difference it makes when people are met with patience, kindness and real understanding.

I understand how the brain works under stress, and how emotional safety affects learning, focus and confidence.

But I’m not a therapist, and Wonder & Scribble is not a therapy service.

These are learning resources, informed by gentle psychology ideas and trauma-aware practice.

My Own Learning Journey

School did not fit me, either.

I was a distracted learner, barely attended, and slept through my exams.

I was not an academic child, and I did not experience school as a place where I felt understood or supported.

As an adult, I returned to education through college and then university, where I discovered a real love of learning.

I went on to gain a first-class degree in psychology.

After that, I trained as a teacher and gained my Level 3 and Level 4 qualifications in Education and Training.

I started in specialist provision, then moved into teaching BTEC Forensic Psychology and Criminology.

Later, I taught GCSE and A Level Psychology, as well as Key Stage 3 science.

And again, I found that the system did not fit me, this time as a teacher.

That experience shapes everything I create at Wonder & Scribble.

It is why I do not believe learning has to look one way to be real.

And it is why I build resources that are gentle, flexible and psychologically informed.

What I Believe

I believe learning works best when children feel emotionally safe enough to try, make mistakes and keep going.

Children are not broken when they struggle with school-style approaches.

Often, it is the expectations and systems around them that do not fit.

We place curiosity, creativity and emotional awareness at the heart of learning, while gently building skills and confidence.

You do not need to replicate school at home to be doing it well.

What Wonder & Scribble Offers

Wonder & Scribble creates printable worksheets and creative learning packs for home-educated children.

They are designed to feel calm, supportive and pressure-free, especially for children who feel anxious, stuck or overwhelmed with learning.

They support confidence, emotional literacy and gentle growth alongside academic skills.

They can be used independently at home, with optional online sessions available for families who would like shared support alongside the resources.

A Note to Parents

If you are wondering whether you are doing enough, or whether you are doing it right, you are not alone.

A lot of families feel that way at times. I have felt it too.

You are allowed to do learning differently than at school.

And you do not have to do it perfectly to be doing it well.

For minds that wonder wildly, scribble fiercely, and shine anyway.
